Be a good chickenIn less than two weeks the great chicken adventure starts. 75 separate flocks of chicken teams will descend on the sleepy rural town of Versailles. The Chick Flicks (that's us) will be among them. Ultimate is a game worth getting passionate about. I've been that way for two decades. I still remember specific plays from the first season I was with the team from the University of Virginia. I can see myself diving to catch a score at my first practice and getting a trailing edge diving block as Tod Andrews (my first Ultimate mentor) was about to catch the disc. I've played in at least 15 different states and 7 different countries and I'm every bit as fired up about playing in Poultry Days as I was about playing in Philadelphia in my first tournament in 1985. It has been my observation that our lives progress more in a series of plateaus rather than in a steady incline. And the spurts of advancement that constitute the vertical planes of the stairs of our existence are often brought about by descrete events. This tournament could be such an event in the life of Louisville Ultimate. There were dark days in Louisville's not too distance past, and even though this year has been a bit of a disappointment without many tournaments and a glitch in keeping the Summer League numbers up, generally the scene is good. I've heard and read grumbling (see Evan's and Bart's recent rants) about the current state of the game in this town and that grumbling is good. Don't be satisfied, but don't be disheartened. Poultry Days is a chance for us all to come together to play great disc and revel in the joy of the game. Get in touch with your inner bird and be ready to take flight. And the plan is to not suck. In fact, the plan is to put on the field the best team ever to come out of this town. As poor Bart put it, typing no doubt through clenched teeth as he sat stewing at the notion of a tourney only three short hours away being played without a team of Villians, there is gobs of Ultimate talent in this this town and no excuse not to rule. The current roster (Rooster)status looks good. Katey and Nathan are not going to Alaska until after PD. Jen Swyers has committed to play. I've heard that Shaggy's knee is on the mend. I haven't yet managed to get injured this year. I even heard Frasier was a possiblity. Chime in chickens. Who up for this? Also, any chance of putting together a practice. Next Saturday would be the best for me. But I'll try to swing Sunday if that's better for people. Peace Mike

While I was pretty bummed we wern't able to ravage Columbus and bring our unique style of heckling into town, it's good to know that people are fired up for the days of poultry. My cup doth runneth over with funny orange drink and mine plate doth grow heavy from chicken dinners!!
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Alanna told me that Huntsville always camped on top of that huge hill in the park and now they won't be there, so we should claim it in the name of LouEVIL, letting our flag flow proudly for all to see, or failing the flag, underpants of some kind.
let's do dis
Barring a great flood, several local volcanic eruptions and/or alien invasion, I expect to be in Versailles for chickenfest. I hope that's ok with everyone who was hoping to take a great team :P
in all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to this and hope it will make me a better player. i'm prepared to give 100% to the cause.
let's practice!!
