MONKEYBOWL - Mark you calendar

MonkeyBowl 17 will be held in Nashville on April 9th and 10th. We are going. If I have to buy whiskey and cleats for six bums, we are going.

I know some of us have talked about this over the past few weeks, but since my memory is bad, and since I trust nobody, e-mail me if you're interested. stephen dot loomis at mercer dot com.

Under sunny skies, and on top of nasty mud and brackish puddles, we went 2-2 on Saturday, beating WKU and Nashville-Lipscomb, and losing to Memphis and North Carolina.

We qualified for the A bracket, but lost our first game Sunday against South Bend, and then we closed out the consolation bracket by beating Memphis Rhodes, and pummelling Knoxville (who was drunk).

I think that's a ninth place finish, out of twenty four teams. If not for the vagaries of seeding, we would probably have done a little better, since the two teams that beat us Saturday met in the finals, and the team that beat us Sunday missed the finals by one point.

In all, we only lost to pretty good teams, and I was happy with both the quality and the quantity (19 of us) of LouEVIL ultimate at this tournament. And even if it's the chumpionship, I like finishing on a win. Thanks to everybody who made the drive and put in the sweat.

And my vote for MVP is Scotty, who endured three greivous injuries on three separate spectacular layouts, AND laid out into a mud puddle which not only invaded but took up residence in the inner sanctum of his undies.

i am in for monkey bowl
Ben Blatz

Maybe so, but...

>>>The Berea and WKU tournies and the college UPA series tournies
>>>are for the college squad to play together. Monkey Bowl,
>>>Poultry Days and Swill in the Ville are tournies for our best
>>>college players to play with the club guys to raise their games
>>>and find out how good Ultimate can feel when it's done right.

The difference for Monkey Bowl is that it comes right at the beginning of the UPA college series. I agree that for the rest of the year, when not playing together, the college guys should be trying to get on a club team / raising their game. But should they split up their team just 1-2 weeks before College Sectionals? Obviously that is totally their decision - I don't know anything about them other than who some of the players are.

>>>and playing on a good team against good competition is
>>>the best way to turn good athletes into good Ultimate
>>>players.

Totally agree

I advocate the she-devil be damned

The Berea and WKU tournies and the college UPA series tournies are for the college squad to play together. Monkey Bowl, Poultry Days and Swill in the Ville are tournies for our best college players to play with the club guys to raise their games and find out how good Ultimate can feel when it's done right. The fact that those are the tournies that I plan to play in may be coloring my judgment, but with the top four or five U of L eligible guys playing with the vets, we can field a much better squad, and playing on a good team against good competition is the best way to turn good athletes into good Ultimate players. (If Alanna is old and cranky I hate to think what that makes me).

just call me advocate of the devil..

but I think supporting the UofL team is really important. As a cranky old player I think that a strong core of graduating college players can lead to a realy strong club team. If you feed a club team and a college team in half-sy fashion--maybe it hurts both...?

Tawk amongst yo-selves.

Alanna the big pick a cause fan (I am playing womens for this tournie--my cause)

I'm in for Sunday. Maybe both

I'm in for Sunday. Maybe both days if it doesn't set me back in school.

Oh, it's not a choice

Dan,

You're ours. Grab that Blatz character too.

i'm in

Though i count myself no stud, i would like to participate in said tournament. I know UL-timate (the college team) is also taking a team this year (yes they got a bid!) but i'd prefer to go with you guys to such a high profile tournament. If you'll have me that is.
:D :D

I'm also known as Daniel Ambrus to some of you.

You could leave Friday or Saturday

My recollection is that it's about three hours to Nashville. However, they're on Central Time, so it's two hours by our clock. So it's perfectly doable to drive down there Saturday morning, which is what I think most of us did last year.

We can work all of that junk out once we have a better read on who's going.
